I was sitting in my office (Starbucks) the other day busy beavering away on new and exciting things for Walsh The Fat Away, when a lady sat down next to me without a drink.
We weren’t sitting shoulder to shoulder – that would be weird and slightly uncomfortable.
She was on the table next to me. Her friend was in-line buying drinks.
At this point I didn’t realise that I was about to get a front row seat of a relentless woman on a mission to see that her friend ate some cake with her.
It went something like this. The friend at the counter shouts over “Do you want a bit cake with your tea?”
“No, I’m ok. I’m on a diet” says the lady next to me.
“You sure?” She shouts back.
“Yeah, I’m fine, thanks.”
“What about a mince pie?”
“No, I’m ok. It won’t help my diet.”
At this point I’m thinking well done – you have resisted temptation.
However…a couple of minutes pass by and I hear “I got one, so I thought you should have one too.”
The lady getting the drinks had returned with two mince pies – cheeky monkey!
This got your boy Walsh a bit riled.
The so-called friend returned to the counter to pick up the drinks.
I turned to the lady next to me and said “She was determined to get you something, wasn’t she?”
“I know and it won’t help my diet” she told me.
I didn’t want to get all high and mighty, so I simply smiled back at her.
What made this situation worse was that this lady really did need to lose weight – a lot of it.
Having the support of friends and family is essential.
It can make or break your chances.
If your goal is to improve your health and lose weight then you have to get family and friends on side.
Don’t take any crap from them.
Lay down the law and be firm.
If you don’t you might find yourself eating random mince pies in a well-known coffee shop next to me!
Sometimes you’ll have to be harsh with your friends and family.
When I’ve been in super clean eating mode I’ve had to tell my Wife and my Mother In-law off several times for trying to tempt me with sweets, chocolate, etc, etc.
Sometimes they don’t even know they are doing it.
But all you have to do is give them a quick poke in the eye – that soon stops them ;)
Getting in shape can be a bumpy ride and the last thing you need is friends and family derailing your efforts.
