Guess what?

It’s my Birthday today.

I’m the grand old age of 34.

Wowzers!

And because it’s my Birthday I decided to treat myself this morning.

Had a cheeky full english breakfast in a little cafe I know.

Does a cracking breakfast…eggs, bacon, sausage, black pudding, mushrooms, beans and even a hash brown!

I always skip the toast though.

The full english breakfast takes me back to when I was a nipper.

My old man and I used frequent many a greasy spoon on my work outings with him.

Although, sometimes it would be a dodgy looking cafe off the M1 somewhere for a man-wich.

You see, my old man was a plant fitter.

That’s a mechanic for JCB’s and alike (nothing to do with fitting plants).

This working environment saw to it that, neither fruit or veg, made it onto his plate very often.

Good job he was always active, otherwise he’d have been carrying some serious timber.

Anyway, some things have stuck with me as I’ve grown up.

I still love a full english breakfast.

I’ve got a real sweet tooth.

Four wheatabix in the morning with copious amounts of milk sounds like magic.

And I still have a real hankering for chips, egg fried rice and curry sauce every now and then. (don’t ask!)

But…

My diet is now better than it’s ever been.

Mind you, it didn’t happen over night and I’ve needed a wee bit of guidance along the way.

I’m fit, healthy and realistic about what I eat.

I know I’m not going to cut out chocolate, biscuits and beer for the rest of the my life (especially on my Birthday).

And I don’t expect the people that I work with to either.

You see, it’s about having a balance.

“Eat clean most of the time, eat rubbish occasionally and exercise often.” (Gavin Walsh 2014)

Think you can manage that?

Right, time to balance some of that Birthday cake with an ickle bit of exercise me thinks.
