Hey, Derek Wahler here, and I’m super excited that Gavin has given me the opportunity to share a quick story with you!
After training over a 1,000 people online in the past year and a half, a life-threatening bowel issue stopped me dead in my tracks, and left me fighting for my life.
In June of 2014, I was in San Diego at a fitness conference. Well…I didn’t actually make it to the conference. Instead, after 6 hours of excruciating stomach pain, I ended up on the bathroom floor of my hotel room, struggling to get up.
I was rushed to the nearest emergency room, and after 2 CAT scans and countless x-rays and other tests, it was confirmed.
I had Gut-Malrotation. My colon rotated inside my body while I was asleep, crushing all the organs in its path.
Worse yet, the doctor told me I was born with my small bowel and appendix on the WRONG side of my body. How that goes unnoticed for 30 years, I have no idea.
I was immediately rushed down to the operating room, where I had emergency stomach surgery that left a nasty 10 inch scar from the top of my stomach, down past my belly button.
Finally after 10 days in the hospital, where I lost 15 pounds on an “ice only” diet, I was released to fly back home to Wisconsin.
It was brutal, and after two months of recovery and very little exercise, I found myself:[checklist]
- Feeling lethargic all the time
- Scare to exercise again
Have you ever been there before? Maybe you skip a workout or two, which then leads to missing a few weeks. Next thing you know, an entire month has flew by and you can feel yourself carrying around a few extra pounds.
If you’ve been there, don’t worry, because I was in the same exact place less than a year ago.
So to burn fat and get back in shape, you’re supposed to increase the cardio, and exercise for AT LEAST 30 minutes, 5 days a week, right?
I mean, that’s what you’ve been told by countless doctors and “experts”, isn’t it? I know I have.
Instead, I did the exact opposite (and you should too)!
One of the fastest ways to burn fat is for your body to produce more growth hormone, which is a fat-burning hormone that attacks your visceral belly fat and literally SHRINKS your fat cells.
Think of the air being let out of a balloon, that’s what happens to your fat cells when growth hormone is flowing through your body. Pretty cool, right?
The problem is, natural production of growth hormone rapidly declines once you reach your early 30’s. And it gets worse with every year that passes. Luckily, there’s a way to boost it back up :)
According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, exercising at an intense rate for just 10 minutes releases the MAXIMUM amount of growth hormone in your body.
So for fat loss, instead of doing long, drawn out hour-long workouts, you’ll get faster results by pushing yourself for just 10-minutes.
And the best part is, you can do this with strategic bodyweight routines right in your own home. You don’t need a gym membership, fancy equipment, or expensive cardio machines. All you need is your own body and a little bit of space.
The key is hitting the Big 5 movements that work your entire body, using specific exercises that not only burn fat, but also build lean muscle.
The marathon workouts need to end. Instead, give it everything you’ve got for a short amount of time, and let your fat-burning hormones do the rest :)
