I’ve got some delightful nuggets of wisdom for you…
I’m going to delve into why you’re not losing that cheeky layer of lard sitting around your tum.
No dilly-dallying today, so lets get stuck in…
1. You’re eating too many calories
This might sound obvious, but if you’re trying to shrink your waistline and things aren’t moving in the right direction, your calorie intake is the first place to look.
Just because you’re exercising and eating healthy, doesn’t guarantee that your body is in a calorie deficit.
Of course, if you’re going to burn that spare chub, you NEED to be in a calorie deficit…for the majority of the time at least, which leads me on to our next point….
2. You’re NOT eating enough calories
Well done, you’ve cut the calories, you’re doubled focused and the jelly from your belly is starting to melt away. Happy days!
Although, a few weeks down the line and everything goes to pot.
It couldn’t have anything to do with too fewer calories…could it?
If you cut your calories too low for several days or weeks your bod will shut up shop.
Specifically, a hormone called leptin, will jump up and down and get its knickers in a right old twist.
Once leptin has a wobble, it’ll slow your metabolism down to a crawl.
Up your calories/and or carbs strategically with a “cheat day” or what I prefer to call a “reset day”, as it’ll reset your leptin levels and metabolism.
This “reset day” will also keep you sane and recalibrate your mind, allowing you to continue on your mission to a jelly free belly.
3. You eat carbs like you’re ready to run a marathon
This is one of the most common problems I come across.
If you’re a carb junkie and do next to no exercise, you’ll most likely struggle to shrink your waistline.
How do you know if you’re a carb junkie?
Well, our carb junkie might eat cereal, toast or cake for breakfast.
Then a baguette for lunch and quite possible a pasta dish for dinner.
Oh and then of course, we’ve got all the sugary snacks in between.
If this sounds like you, then you need to have a word with yourself.
You’ve got no business eating that many carbs, unless you’re double active.
Your bod will store all the excess carbs and plain old chub, otherwise know as “carb spillover”.
4. Your cheat day is EVERY day
You’ve got your exercise dialed and things are going smoothly.
It won’t hurt to have a muffin from your local coffee shop, will it?
One muffin, no…not at all. But…
If that muffin opens the floodgates to all manner of sugary grub, we’ve got a problem.
5. You’ve fallen for the protein shake hype
Protein keeps you fuller for longer and it’s not a bad shout to up your protein intake through real food sources, when you’re trying to lose weight. However…
Don’t fall for the “shake trap”…
Most protein shakes come with a monumental amount of sugars/carbs, which will slow down your fat loss.
If you’re looking to add some serious muscle, then go ahead. But….
If you’re number one goal is to lose weight, then skip the protein shake.
6. You’re stressed out to the maximus
Stress comes from all different areas of our life: shoddy grub, work, family life, poor sleep and even too much exercise.
Let me be blunt, if you’re mentally/and physically fried, you’re not going to lose your spare lard anytime soon.
Your head is mostly likely in the wrong place and you’ll fall off the “wagon” at the faintest whiff of a pain au chocolat. Plus…
Your cortisol hormone will be all jacked up, practically slamming the door to your belly fat, making it almost impossible to lose fat until you’ve chilled the feck out. So…
Look after your bod better, get some sleep and relax once in a while.
7. You’re not committed
This might ruffled a few feathers, but most people aren’t fully committed to losing that layer of lard around the middle.
At best, they dabble in losing the extra fat.
And from my experience, those that “dabble” don’t see results.
If you want to transform your body and your health commit to it.
Plain and simple.
And if you want faster results, you’re better off following a tried and tested plan.
